VERDICT

The Philips L2BO/27 should be able to convince everyone that Philips can compete with the biggest names in the industry and enrich the market with their own portable listening solution. These headphones are fantastic for someone who spends a lot of time on-the-go but would want to use the same pair of headphones even at home.

The L2BO/27 Fidelio High Fidelity Over Ear Headphones are Phillips’s way of penetrating the high-end portable listening market and convincing everybody that they have what it takes to provide their customers with the highest standards in sound and comfort.

Design and build quality

Made for both indoor and outdoor listening, Philips felt that the semi-open construction would best reflect the nature of these headphones. The goal here is to clock as much outside noise as possible without sacrificing sound detail.

We have to say that the L2BO/27 make a very favorable first impression. The generous use of premium materials, including aluminum and fine leathers, makes you feel like you are dealing with a premium product that’s built to last – something which we find essential for anything but the most affordable headphones out there.

The padded headband is made out of aluminum, and the leather-covered ear cushions are equipped with memory foam to fit snugly on your ears. The foam can comfort to all ear shapes and sizes, while simultaneously ensuring excellent noise isolation.

What makes these headphones so different is the short cable with a one-button remote that’s designed to work with both Android and Apple phones. The only thing missing are volume controls, but the rest is there, including the ability to answer calls.

Sound quality

Philips L2BO/27 Fidelio High Fidelity Over Ear Headphones use a pair of high-definition optimally vented neodymium speaker drivers in combination with the aluminum ear shells for acoustic precision. Philips has decided to tilt the speakers to the ear’s natural angle for extra clarity.

Sound isolation headphones often tend to sound too contained and tiny. That’s definitely not the case with these. The L2BO/27 can be proud to offer a spacious listening experience, which will surprise you with its sound separation and special positioning. Listening to binaural recordings is guaranteed to take you to a completely different place.

The listening experienced is tuned for maximum enjoyment and fun. Don’t get us wrong, the headphones are still exceptionally detailed and musical, but that’s not all they are. When the music wants to get all wild, the Fidelio don’t try to stop it. Instead, they play nicely along and will gladly put a smile on your face.

What’s in the box?

The packaging contains a 6.3mm adapter that allows you to plug the headphones into your home audio setup. There’s also a soft pouch that doesn’t provide too much in terms of protection but helps to keep the headphones clean.
